VFX in Gravity

With the digital post production, computer imagery and visual effects primarily provided by Framestore and lead by visual effects supervisor Tim Webber I thought the movie Gravity took VFX and 3D animation to a whole new level.
According to writer Mike Seymour from FXGuide blog; most things where shot when the actors were in their suits, only their faces would be real, the rest of their bodies, suits, hands/limbs, environments, etc were all digital and fully 3D animated.
A minimalist set with maximum effects; on set they used a large LED light box that was able

to be moved around and changed colors at any given moment, which allowed the light to be cast onto the faces and "suits" of the actors.
I think it is crazy how this film used 3D animation just like we are to make a whole planet and well space, with just the help of many many visual effects artists, along with such a small yet technical space.
For example this layout looks like something that could very well be made in Blender or Adobe After effects, and that fact makes me more and more curious about this side of film.

If you have never seen gravity it is and amazing film and I would definitely recommend if you are in the mood to get out of this world for a little bit.
